History

The story of New Creation Lutheran Church is a powerful testament to resilience, community spirit, and faith. Founded on November 5th, 1995, in south San Jose, the church quickly became a beacon of hope and a place for gathering, with a vision for the future that included not only worship services but also a pre-school. However, this vision faced a devastating setback when, just a few weeks after its charter, the entire building was destroyed by an arson fire on December 28th, 1995. Undeterred, the congregation continued to meet for Sunday services wherever they could find space: in parks, Los Paseos School’s cafeteria, and even at the Rancho Santa Teresa Swim and Racquet club. Demonstrating a remarkable resilience and commitment to their community, this period highlighted the congregation’s determination to maintain their fellowship despite the lack of a physical church.

The rebuilding of New Creation Lutheran Church, completed and rededicated on February 8th, 1998, was a testament to the power of community and faith. Members and friends of the church contributed significantly to the construction efforts, with some swinging hammers and others installing carpeting and painting. This collective effort, driven by faith and the support of its members and friends, underscored the unbreakable spirit of the congregation, showcasing how adversity can lead to a stronger, united community.

Now

The essence of New Creation Lutheran Church is beautifully encapsulated in its inclusive and welcoming spirit, reflecting a deep commitment to embracing diversity within its community. This small, vibrant congregation of about 70 people exemplifies the value of unity amidst diversity, welcoming individuals from various ages, backgrounds, and spiritual journeys. Whether attendees identify as Lutherans, come from different faith traditions, consider themselves agnostic, or are still exploring their spiritual path, the church offers a sanctuary for all.

The church’s approach to inclusivity extends beyond spiritual beliefs, embracing individuals regardless of age, race, sexual orientation, political beliefs, and even preferences in sports or entertainment. This open-door policy, emphasizing that details like hair color or favorite sports teams are inconsequential, highlights the church’s focus on what truly matters: community, acceptance, and love. By emphasizing these universal values over superficial differences, New Creation Lutheran Church creates a welcoming environment for dialogue, growth, and shared experiences, fostering a sense of belonging and unity among its members.
